The solution
The monitoring and prevention of collision risks involving flying fauna, including birds and bats, on wind turbines has become a major challenge for renewable energy producers.
In response, Biodiv-Wind SAS has developed the SafeWind® system, an innovative bird detection system designed to ensure collision prevention and wildlife safety.
SafeWind® uses advanced Artificial Intelligence algorithms to provide accurate video-detection of wildlife, even in the demanding environments surrounding operational wind turbines. Detecting and tracking moving targets, such as birds and bats, through the rotating blades is a key capability of the system.
Thanks to its enhanced detection, tracking, and risk analysis capabilities, SafeWind®:
- Engages bird deterrent measures, such as sound or operational regulation, when necessary and based on configurable risk levels.
- Maximizes wind turbine output by triggering operational adjustments only when a proven risk exists.
- Minimizes habituation effects in wildlife, avoiding reduced effectiveness of scaring measures and disturbances to nearby residents.
Features
How it works
The system SafeWind® is configured to respond to the planning permit requirements and client’s needs for the operational life of the wind farm. Depending on its configuration the system allows to carry out intra or inter WTG observations.
SafeWind® bird detection system includes CE-adaptable industrial equipment such as video-detection cameras, horns, IR spots, and a computer system. This equipment is linked to an internal unit inside the turbine tower, which continuously analyzes live video streams for potential wildlife intrusions.
SafeWind® Services are provided to the client in partnership with international recognised wind turbine maintenance providers for the duration of the terms.
Services for detection, regulation and deterrence are provided via a bespoke in-house Artificial Intelligence software.
On-going system supervision and data access is ensured with the continuous internet connection to the system while remote maintenance is carried out by a dedicated technical support team.
