SafeWind detects Europe’s rarest raptor in southern France!

Twice during the spring of 2021, SafeWind (developed by Biodiv-Wind) successfully detected and helped prevent a collision involving a Bearded Vulture—the rarest raptor in Europe—at a wind turbine site in southern France.

As soon as the bird was detected, SafeWind automatically triggered turbine regulation, allowing the bird to pass safely—even flying between the blades.
Our ornithologists were even able to observe the discoloration of its feathers, which makes it possible to identify individual birds.

The Bearded Vulture is the largest and rarest raptor in Europe and is subject to particular attention from European authorities.

SafeWind is a real-time video detection system powered by artificial intelligence, designed to enable coexistence between wind turbines and biodiversity.
