We are pleased to announce the upcoming installation of a SafeWind real-time detection system on a wind farm located in the Canary Islands, a region known for both its strong wind resources and its high ecological value.
Island environments host particularly rich and sensitive bird communities. In the Canary Islands, resident bird species interact year-round with wind energy infrastructures across open landscapes, coastal zones and semi-arid habitats. In such contexts, continuous wildlife monitoring at wind turbines is essential to reduce collision risks while ensuring stable renewable energy production.
The SafeWind system is designed specifically for bird protection in wind energy projects. By detecting birds in real time near turbines, it enables operators to adapt turbine operation when necessary, contributing directly to collision prevention and improved coexistence between wind farms and flying wildlife. This approach supports both biodiversity conservation objectives and operational continuity.
Unlike post-construction monitoring alone, real-time systems play a key role in proactive risk reduction. SafeWind contributes to an operational effarouchement oiseaux strategy, not through disturbance, but through informed decision-making based on live observations. This form of télédétection appliquée aux éoliennes allows project owners to respond immediately to wildlife presence, especially in areas where birds are active throughout the year.
In regions like the Canary Islands, where ecological conditions are unique and often protected, such systems are also valuable for aligning wind farm operation with regulatory expectations and environmental commitments. By integrating bird protection directly into turbine management, SafeWind supports a more responsible and adaptive model of wind energy development.
This installation marks another step toward wind energy systems designed with wildlife protection in mind, reinforcing the idea that renewable energy and biodiversity conservation can move forward together when the right tools are deployed.
